Well it’s true. Fall has officially arrived. I can only think of one word to describe how I feel. Bittersweet. I really love the fall time of year…in fact, my favourite day of the year is September 24! No, it’s not my birthday or a special event did not happen that day (however it is now a niece’s anniversary and this year my nephew and his wife had their infant son arrive on that day…smart boy!), I just love that day. Every year September 24 is an amazing lovely sunny day, and this year was no exception. Bittersweet…..as much as I love the fall, we know what follows.
Let’s talk about the great things about fall. Our gardens seem to come into their final glory, showing colours that are almost fluorescent. See the photos below of celosia and other annuals that are just exceptional right now!
Working in our gardens in the fall is a pleasure since the temperatures are comfortable. Take a drive to your local garden centre and check out the sales….everyone is cleaning up and selling off their remaining perennials, shrubs, and trees. You can pick up some great deals!! Also it’s a great time to split your perennials that are becoming too large. Don’t forget to get your fall bulbs in the ground for lovely blooms next spring.
I love watching the leaves turn to fiery reds and brilliant oranges and taking a hike through the woods with the leaves swishing over your boots. And of course everything apple! Biting into a crunchy apple, warm apple pie, apple sauce…..oooooh yum!
Get outside and enjoy these fabulous days of fall!!!!
